A New Standard for Slim Insole Performance

How do you build a thin insole that performs just like a full-volume insole?
That was the challenge BMZ, Japan’s leader in orthopedic-performance insoles, brought to Evoco. Their patented Ashi-Tore® design, centered on the foot’s cuboid bone, enhances mobility, balance, and joint protection. But translating this into a sleek, fashion-footwear format required a material that could deliver precise biomechanical response in a much slimmer form factor.
Evoco’s Role: A Material Match for Precision Design
Evoco developed a custom foam formulation to meet the performance needs of BMZ’s Ashi-Tore design. Using its FATES Bio-Foam platform, it has been optimized to:
- Deliver greater elasticity for enhanced rebound and responsiveness
- Maintain structural integrity in a slim profile
- Achieve high compression recovery for lasting performance
- Run seamlessly on BMZ’s existing tooling and manufacturing process

Scaled Supply Meets Performance Demand
The team at Evoco’s ability to deliver production volumes from its Tech Hub in Vietnam enabled BMZ to move quickly from prototyping to national retail launch — without disrupting their manufacturing flow. The product’s successful rollout via Japanese broadcast channels validated both consumer appeal and supply chain readiness.

Certified Materials, Proven Results
The foam used in this collaboration is USDA, EuroFins, GreenCircle, HIGG Index-certified, with up to 72% plant-based content and delivering up to 70% lower carbon impact compared to fossil-derived PU — without sacrificing technical performance.

Why it Matters
This case illustrates how advanced biomechanical concepts, like cuboid-centered support, can be executed in a thinner, more commercially adaptable product format using Evoco’s Bio-Foam technology. It proves that slim doesn’t mean soft on performance, and that switching to lower-impact materials doesn’t require compromise or retooling.

About BMZ
BMZ insoles are suitable for everyone: for both working and athletic people, improving their performance. BMZ’s patent on the cuboid theory made it possible to create these high-performance insoles, which allow both mobility and stability. These features make them unique, precisely because ordinary shoe insoles only provide stability. Through compression of the cuboid bone, it is, in fact, possible to achieve greater mobility of the toes and consequently greater mobility. BMZ’s insole also enable the reduction of injuries and allow the weight to be taken off the joints. The innovative technology of BMZ insoles comes directly from Japan.
